The Best Skincare Routine to Follow in 2024

Want to sail through 2024 with a flawless complexion?

Whether your skin is oily and acne-prone, sensitive and dry, or somewhere in between, here’s a high-powered skincare routine from Lavelier that you’ll be able to turn to both day and night.

Cleanse Your Skin

Biology Mousse Cleanser

If you want to make sure that your skincare routine is as effective as possible, you need to start with a cleanse.

Cleansing will remove all of the impurities that are cluttering your skin’s surface. From sebum and dead skin cells to pollutants and product residue, all of this would otherwise block the rest of your skincare products from properly penetrating your skin. Not only would this make them less efficient, but it will also leave your skin prone to congestion and acne due to how the products that you apply would pile up on your skin’s surface instead of soaking in.

Where many people falter is in choosing a good cleanser. Many of the cleansers out there contain sulfates, which won’t do your skin any long-term favors. Sure, sulfates are effective cleansing agents but they’re also skin-stripping compounds that will leave your skin barrier compromised over time.

Instead, no matter your skin type, always go for a sulfate-free formula, such as the Lavelier Biology Mousse Cleanser. This cleanser combines several gentle cleansing agents, resulting in a rich lather that dissolves impurities without harming the skin barrier.

Exfoliate 1-3 Times a Week

Intensive Facial Peel

Exfoliation is essentially a more intensive form of cleansing. While a cleanser focuses on the skin’s surface, an exfoliator dives deeper, pulling impurities out of the pores. This is crucial because, even if you diligently cleanse your skin twice a day, you’ll still end up with unwanted particles in your pores – it’s pretty much impossible to completely avoid this.

However, unlike cleansing, exfoliation doesn’t need to be carried out daily. Instead, 1-3 times a week is sufficient, depending on your skin type. Dry skin should only be exfoliated 1-2 times a week whereas oily skin does better being exfoliated 2-3 times a week.

Either way, just like when choosing a cleanser, don’t go overboard with an overly harsh exfoliator. The best way forward is with a formula that combines a couple of gentle exfoliants, just like the Lavelier Intensive Facial Peel. This exfoliator features a blend of mandelic acid and bamboo powder. Mandelic acid is one of the mildest alpha-hydroxy acids while bamboo powder is less abrasive than many of the common physical exfoliants that are used. Together, they do a fantastic job of exfoliating all skin types without causing damage.

Apply a Hydrating Toner

Marine Facial Toner

Now that you’re done cleansing and possibly also exfoliating, it’s time to move on to your toner. If you don’t already use a toner, make 2024 the year that you give one a try.

While it’s true that some toners have a reputation for being drying and astringent, not all formulas are like this. The main purpose of a toner is to rebalance the pH level on your skin’s surface, which cleansing can often interfere with. Keeping your skin’s pH balanced will help to prevent a large number of visible skin concerns, from acne to sensitivities, from arising.

Some toners, including the Lavelier Marine Facial Toner, are also incredibly hydrating. Between aloe vera leaf juice, cucumber fruit extract, and coral seaweed extract, this formula is the perfect way to give your skin an extra layer of hydration, leaving it looking plump and refreshed.

Use a Vitamin C Serum

Nourishing Vitamin C Serum

While it’s true that you should pick and choose your serums based on your skin type and the specific skin concerns that you’re dealing with, vitamin C is an ingredient that everyone would benefit from, making a vitamin C serum a no-brainer.

Vitamin C does so much for the skin. Research shows that it reduces and prevents the appearance of aging, repairs the look of sun damaged skin, lightens the visibility of dark spots, brightens the complexion, helps with hydration…the list goes on!

Choosing a vitamin C serum is a little trickier, mainly because there are so many out there! We would recommend picking a formula that contains more than one proven form of vitamin C, such as the Lavelier Nourishing Vitamin C Serum. With tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and ascorbyl palmitate, this serum will enable you to double up on the benefits of vitamin C. You’ll see results so much sooner with this formula, making it a must-have in every skincare routine.

If You Have Time, Layer on a Second Serum

Skin Clair Repair

If you’re short on time, then go ahead and skip this step. The vitamin C serum that we featured above covers all bases.

However, if you have some extra time to spare and also have a few visible skin concerns that you’ve been trying to eradicate, then targeting them with an extra serum can be very beneficial.

Take the Lavelier Skin Clair Repair, for example. This specialized serum has been designed to lighten the look of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Whether your discoloration has been caused by sun damage, acne breakouts, or anything else, this serum will work to even out your skin tone and restore balance to your complexion.

The Lavelier Nano Gold Serum is also worth looking into, particularly if the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles has been getting you down. Brimming with botanical extracts, peptides, and hydrating humectants, this action-packed formula will leave your skin feeling smoother, firmer, and tighter.

Apply an Eye Cream

Eye Firming Concentrate

Many people don’t realize that the skin around the eyes is significantly thinner than the skin on the rest of the face. This means that when your skin naturally starts to thin out with age, the eye area tends to be the first part of the face that’s affected. From fine lines and wrinkles to sagging and drooping skin, the eye area is extremely vulnerable to the visible signs of skin aging.

What can you do about this? It’s simple – add an eye cream to your skincare routine. Unlike face creams, eye creams will be formulated to specifically cater to the delicate skin around the eyes. While you could go ahead and simply use your face moisturizer in this area, a dedicated eye cream will provide much better results.

Our top choice for this would be the Lavelier Eye Firming Concentrate. The vitamins in this formula, along with the plethora of antioxidants provided by the long list of plant extracts, will counter the appearance of aging. These ingredients will work to thicken the feel of your skin over time. In turn, this will firm up your complexion, doing away with the look of wrinkles, sagging, and more.

This formula also happens to be extremely hydrating. This is something that the skin around the eyes needs. With the skin here being thinner, moisture evaporates from it at a much faster rate. Dehydration will only exacerbate the skin concerns that you’re dealing with, so keeping your eye area fully quenched is vital.

Moisturize Your Skin

Moisture Allure Cream

Let’s now talk about moisturizers, which would be the final step if you’re following this skincare routine in the evening.

No matter your skin type, a moisturizer is essential. It will give your skin a moisture boost, enabling your complexion to thrive. Your skin cells rely on moisture in order to function optimally, which is why several of the steps in this skincare routine feature hydrating products.

When picking a moisturizer, keep your skin type in mind. If you have oily skin, you need a product that can hydrate without clogging your pores. The Lavelier Moisture Allure Cream would be great for this. It’s filled with lightweight hydrating compounds, such as coral seaweed extract, aloe vera, and glycerin. It will boost your skin’s moisture levels without weighing your skin down or leaving it feeling greasier.

On the other hand, if you have dry skin, extra grease is exactly what you need. Use a lightweight moisturizer and it won’t be long before all of the moisture that you’ve given your skin evaporates away. You’ll need a formula that also contains occlusives, which will lock the hydration into your skin. That’s where the Lavelier Marine Deep Moisturizer shines. In addition to its lightweight hydrating ingredients, it also contains shea butter to trap the moisture in your skin, providing a long-lasting feeling of softness and suppleness.

Finish With SPF

Divine Day Defense SPF30

SPF is a step that many people leave out of their skincare routines in their early years, but then regret this as life progresses. Why? Because sun damage accumulates in the skin. You may not see signs of this in your 20s, or even your 30s, but it won’t be long before all of the UV damage that you’ve exposed your skin to over the years rears up in the form of dark spots, accelerated skin aging, and possibly also skin cancer.

To prevent this, SPF is a must. One of the main reasons why people avoid SPF is because of how many sunscreens feel greasy and uncomfortable on the skin. That’s why we developed the Lavelier Divine Day Defense SPF 30. This cream feels just as silky and lightweight as the rest of our moisturizers. However, it also happens to contain SPF 30, making it more than capable of shielding your skin from the sun.

With that said, a single application in the morning isn’t going to be enough. To keep your skin adequately protected, you’ll need to reapply this cream, or any other sunscreen, every couple of hours.

Don’t forget that sun protection needs to be a year-round effort too. UV rays are present in the winter months as well. In fact, they’re easily magnified by ice and snow, making them just as troublesome as the summer sun. Keep your skin protected throughout the year and you’ll be rewarded with a healthy glow by the end of 2024.
